Ray Austin - Kurzbio:
Ray kommt aus Halifax in Nordengland, lebt seit 1970 in Freiburg, wo er anfangs als Dozent für Englisch an der Universität arbeitete, den Folk & Blues Club gründete und 1985 das Jazzhaus Freiburg mitgründete.
Als Singer/Songwriter brachte er in den 70er und 80er Jahren 5 LPs (Intercord/Stockfisch) heraus, zwischendrin war er Gastwirt, Radio- (SWF3) und gelegentlicher TV-Moderator (ARD) und ist auf weiteren LPs/CDs vertreten. 1977 - 80 leitete er mit seiner Frau Allison die Musik- & Kleinkunstkneipe HALIFAX in Gottenheim bei Freiburg. 1978 und 1982 kamen die Töchter Anna und Ellen Jane zur Welt, worauf er mit dem ewigen Herumtreiben aufhörte
Heute organisiert er das Musikprogramm in der Wodan Halle in Freiburg (seit 1999) und spielt alles von Country- und Folk-Music, Rock und Blues (mit Gitarre) sowie Jazz und Swing (Trompete) mit verschiedenen Formationen wie seinen FRIENDS und ROYAL GARDEN FIVE sowie den ORIGINAL HALLELUJAH STOMPERS.
Er liebt Musik, die harmonisch und melodisch ist und aus dem Herzen aber auch aus dem Bauch kommt.
Ray Austin - short bio:
Ray comes from Halifax in Yorkshire (northern England) where he learned to play jazz trumpet and folk-blues guitar as well as how to be a teacher of art and English. That was after he'd served half the time in the army intelligence corps that he'd signed on for - he didn't desert - just bought himself out.
He's been living in Freiburg (Black Forest, Germany) since 1970, where he initially taught English linguistics at the university and founded the Freiburg Folk & Blues Club in the same year and co-founded the Freiburg Jazzhaus in 1985.
As a singer/songwriter he toured and released 5 LPs in the 70s and early 80s. He also managed, with his wife Allison, a music pub called HALIFAX near Freiburg and presented regular music programmes on German national radio. What stopped him touring was the arrival of his two daughters Anna and Ellen Jane in '78 and '82.
Today he runs one of Freiburg's favourite live music venues, the Wodan Hall while continuing to play all his favourite styles of music with his bands Ray Austin & FRIENDS and THE ROYAL GARDEN FIVE as well as THE ORIGINAL HALLELUJAH STOMPERS Dixieland band.
He likes his music to be harmonic and melodic with lots of "heart" (some call it "balls").
